Prince Rogers Nelson, known by the singular name Prince, has been found dead in the morning of April 21, 2016 at his Paisley Park complex in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was found in an elevator and an emergency call was put through to at 9:32 AM. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 AM.
There is speculation on the cause of death as he has received medical treatment at a hospital 6 days prior in Moline, Illinois, following an emergency landing of his private jet at Quad City International Airport. He was said to have suffered from severe dehydration, a result of a bout of influenza. He was 57 years old.
Prince, whom to leave his Warner Brothers recording contract was also known as The Love Symbol #2 ; or The Artist Formally Known As Prince, was a tremendously prolific songwriter, a multi-instrumentalist, and flamboyant style icon. He has sold more than 100 million records making him one of the best selling artist’s of all time. He won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for his film Purple Rain. He is a winner of 7 Grammy Awards. His status in Popular music ranks him in relevance with James Brown, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Miles Davis.
Debuting singles such as I Want To Be Your Lover and Controversy led to tremendous international success with albums like 1999, Parade and further singles, When Doves Cry and Kiss.
He was fiercely defensive of his privacy and married twice to Mayte Garcia, 1996-1999 and Manuela Testelini, 2001-2006. He has been romantically linked to Kim Basinger, Carmen Electra, Madonna and Sheila E. Prince was raised a Seventh-Day Adventist and became a Jehovah’s Witness in 2001.
He had one child, Boy Gregory, whom died due to complications of Pfeiffer Syndrome one week after his birth in 1996.
There has been expression of consolation of his death from artists such as Missy Elliot, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Frank Ocean and USA President Barack Obama to name a few.
