The stars of the film Loving, actors Ruth Negga & Joel Edgerton are featured in a spread at Vogue Magazine (also highlighting the film which has received an early Oscar buzz), with stunning photos from photographer Mario Testino. Loving is set for release in the USA on November 16, 2016. It debuted at Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2016 with an excellent reception. The film is about real life couple Mildred & Richard Loving, who’s interracial marriage in 1958 was illegal according to anti-miscegenation laws in the state of Virginia, where they resided. After a series of lawsuits (Loving v Virginia), the Supreme Court unanimously decided that all laws prohibiting interracial marriage were unconstitutional. Loving is directed by Jeff Nichols.
Ms Negga is of Irish and Ethiopian heritage. Born in Addis Ababa, her family relocated to Limerick when she was age 4. Mr Edgerton is Australian. The actor/director was born in Blacktown, New South Wales and began professionally in theatre in Sydney. Mr Edgerton starred in the film Exodus: Gods & Kings (directed by Ridley Scott) as Ramesses II versus actor Christian Bale‘s Moses. The film received heavy criticism for utilising “whitewash”, as the lead roles were cast with Caucasians, while the historic roles were that of Hebrews and ancient Egyptians.
