George Michael Passed Away At 53 UPDATE

Superstar George Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, who had a career spanning from nearly forty years with his debut with group Wham! was found dead on Christmas day. Wham! was Mr Michael and childhood friend Andrew Ridgeley‘s project. A cause of death has not been confirmed however Mr Michael’s manager has suspected heart failure. His death is being considered as “unexplained but not suspicious” by Thames Valley Police.

Through Mr Michael’s career he has won 4 MTV Video Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards, 2 Grammy Awards, 3 Brit Awards and 4 Ivor Novello Awards. Mr Michael had 11 number 1 UK singles and had sold more than 100 million records albums through his career.

Mr Michael had been challenged by substance abuse issues and a pattern of self harm through DUI arrests, etc. Mr Michael had admitted to depression at one point in his life caused by the realisation that he was homosexual. Mr Michael was in a 13 year long relationship with businessman Kenny Goss. Mr Michael had been arrested for cottaging in both Beverly Hills and London. In 1998, his Beverly Hills arrest eventually exposed his sexual orientation publicly. He addressed it with semi-autobiographical music videos depicting a policeman in a sting operation to catch him in a lewd act, etc. Mr Michael became an LGBT rights champion and supported various LGBT and HIV/Aids charities. He had expressed regrets over the public impact of his arrests and their influence on young gay people.

One of Mr Michael’s last music video singles, White Light (2012), subject matter seemingly addresses his substance abuse issues, featuring veritable phoenix Kate Moss. Collaborators have been Elton John, Mary J Blige, Queen and Aretha Franklin.

Mr Michael’s last reported partner was Fadi Fawaz. Mr Fawaz gave an interview to The Telegraph stating:

“We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet. Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I. Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was – he was a beautiful person.”
