Drake made a trip to Johannesburg & Namibia to create this new short film, inspired by his album Views, titled Please Forgive Me. While a music video for the track One Dance was expected to return the mega-hit to the #1 spot on the charts, director Anthony Mandler with director of photography, Kevin Devlin created a pristine imagery of sub-Saharan gangster & beauty. Drake flexes his acting chops, adding dimension to the persona we love in Hotline Bling, tough and original. Actor Fanny Neguesha is stunning. In a way this short film, Please Forgive Me is a companion to Rihanna‘s Needed Me, thematically.
Collaborators from One Dance, Kyla Reid and Popcaan make appearances as well, while Tanisha Scott as choreographer makes it engaging. The tracks from Views, starting with Hype, Controlla, One Dance, 9, the track Views, Weston Road Flows with it’s references to Mary J Blige & Curtis Mayfield, some Fela Kuti & Afrika 70, ending with Summer’s Over Interlude, are featured. Original soundtrack music by Drake’s frequent collaborator; producer Noah 40 Shebib.
Indeed summer is over as Drake has spent the entirety of it dominating the Billboard charts, he has stated that he has up to 7 new tracks and is in the midst of a collaboration with Kanye West. Views is sensitive, subtle, urban & full of melody. We look forward to hearing the new material.
