Actor Carrie Fisher, 60 was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles after she went into cardiac arrest while aboard a United Airline flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday, December 23rd. Brother Todd Fisher informed Associated Press that Ms Fisher was out of emergency and stabilised. She is currently being treated in an Intensive Care Unit at an University of Los Angeles Medical Center. The two are children of singer Eddie Fisher and actor/singer/dancer Debbie Reynolds. They are half siblings with actors Joely Fisher and Trisha Leigh Fisher from Mr Fisher’s marriage with actor/singer Connie Stevens. Mr Fisher left Ms Reynolds to marry actor Elizabeth Taylor.
Ms Fisher has recently released a memoir, The Princess Diarist in which she discussed her experience on the cusp of fame while working on the original Star Wars trilogy as the role of Princess Leia. Ms Fisher admitted to an affair with co-star Harrison Ford.
Ms Fisher has also worked on a one-woman show called Wishful Drinking which is autobiographical and addresses her alcohol and substance dependencies in by product of suffering mental health issues. Ms Fisher also made subject her substance dependencies in semi-autobiographical novel and film Postcards From The Edge.
Ms Fisher had been in London working on the third season of Channel 4, Emmy nominated television show Catastrophe.
People Magazine reported that Ms Fisher’s French Bulldog Gary is at her side in hospital as she recovers.
