Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Invite Diverse New Class Including Icecube & Emma Watson.

After last winter’s debacle of #OscarsSoWhite and discontent expressed by film veterans such as Spike Lee & Jada Pinkett Smith, Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences’ president Cheryl Boone Isaacs saw the need for a change of the Academy, which was 90% white and 75% male. In January, 2016 it was unanimously voted that rules be changed to encourage diversity amongst their ranks. This change also included younger members such as the new member (and youngest) John Boyega, 24, of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (from Peckham, London).

Jordan, Rose Byrne, Vivica Fox, Emma Watson, Anika Noni Rose, Tom Hiddleston, Carmen Ejogo and O’Shea “Icecube” Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez & more.

The number of invitees for this year are a record total of 683 new members.

Apparently new invitees find out about their membership via Variety Magazine announcement with the public. Read the Variety Magazine article on this years invitees and diversity.

Added members in the music branch include Mary J. Blige and Sia Furler.

Directors branch take new members Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts Of No Nation) & Ryan Coogler (Creed) & Sam Taylor-Johnson (50 Shades Of Gray).

The Bling Ring actor and feminist, Emma Watson, rightfully joins the members ranks of the Academy this year. Here she is in a stunning Oscar De La Renta gown, but I hoped at this premiere they “asked her more”.

Maybe the hottest of the British Invasion of Hollywood, (hopefully the next Bond?) in my favourite, (you guessed it; Tom Ford) actor Idris Elba. I have to comment on the button hole on the shawl collar of the tuxedo. A bit oddly unnecessary but, alright Tom, we ❤️  U anyway!

Do you think we can look forward to a new hashtag #OscarsSoDiverse in 2017?
